Parts of North Africa are unusually green.

After two months of exceptionally heavy rainfall, the previously parched landscape in North Africa has visibly recovered. This is particularly evident in Morocco.

Satellite images clearly show that, across large parts of the country, the dry land has quickly turned back into green countryside. The effects are also measurable: the reservoirs have filled up significantly and some are now over 70% full.

In Tunisia and Algeria, the situation has also improved thanks to the rain, albeit to a lesser extent.

Even in the outlying areas of the Northern Sahara, patches of greenery and pools of water appear briefly. However, these phenomena are usually short-lived and disappear quickly.

In parts of Morocco, the wet weather is set to continue for the time being. Although water reserves have recovered, this does little to alleviate the fundamental water shortage in the region.
