Mince Pie recipe to do at home

mince piesIngredients needed: 140 grams butter, 225g plain flour, 50 grams caster sugar, 2 eggs, 280 grams mincemeat and some icing sugar for decoration.

Love them or hate them, mince pies are part of Christmas festivities. While you can buy them from the shops, they aren’t difficult to make. Here is a recipe for you to try.

In a bowl, mix together the flour and caster sugar with a pinch of salt. Then add one egg yolk with two teaspoons of water until a dough forms. Roll out the pastry and cut out the mince pie bases and toppers.

Move the bases into a baking muffin case and spoon in some mincemeat. With the leftover dough, create the lid of your mince pie and add it on top. Use a fork and poke some holes in the top of the mince pies and lightly brush some beaten egg on top.

Bake in the oven for around 15 minutes at 200C. Once the mince pies have turned golden, place them on a wire rack and add some icing sugar for decoration.
