Likely to be broken again
New record June temperature in the UK

Heat map of southern England on 24.06 showing extreme temperatures across Hampshire, with Gosport highlighted at 36.1°C and nearby Portsmouth around 35°C amid deep red heat zones.
Wednesday was provisionally the UK's hottest June day on record.

The UK saw its hottest June day on record on Wednesday, which could be broken again, amid widespread disruption.

For a second day, many train lines see delays or cancellations while on the M25 10 people were taken to hospital after being trapped in gridlock following a crash.

Wednesday's final high was 36.1 °C at Gosport, Hampshire, though this is likely to be broken again Thursday with some areas possibly reaching up to 37 °C.

Scotland also saw its hottest day of the year after a high of 29.4 °C was reached at Dyce, Aberdeen and the situation in Europe is much the same.

France in particular has been severely affected with the entire country under heat warnings and a high of 42 °C recorded in Bordeaux.

Here, hundreds of schools remain fully or partially closed on Thursday with red extreme heat warnings now extended into Friday for London and the south-east of England.
