Italy drought
Rivers and lakes in serious deficit

The drought is worsening across Italy, particularly in northern regions, with irrigation issues anticipated.

Like many rivers and lakes in northern Italy, Lake Olginate, in the province of Lecco, as in the video footage above, is showing obvious signs of distress.

Lake Olginate constitutes the last lake area of the Adda River. Large expanses of sand, shoals, pebbles and islets have resurfaced. The banks appear lower than normal and old wooden fishing structures are resurfacing.

The boat jetty is also running dry. With the Adda at such a low level, there will most likely be problems with water supply ahead of the irrigation season.

It's no better for Genoa's main water supply, as captured above at Lake Brugneto in Liguria. Since 6th March 2022, the reservoir has lost approximately 5 million cubic meters of water.

The reservoir, built in 1959, constitutes Genoa's main water supply and is the largest lake in the region.
