Puerto Ricans have been left reeling after Hurricane Fiona caused catastrophic flooding and devastation. Now, they face a severe heatwave after days without power and water.

Heat warnings and advisories have been in effect for several days across much of northern and western Puerto Rico, including San Juan, with Heat Indices of up to 46C.

The Heat Index is a measure of how the temperature feels when combining actual air temperature with relative humidity, and is commonly used in the US.

Over 1 million, out of 1.4 million customers are still left without power in the wake of Hurricane Fiona, and with no electricity then water also cannot be pumped into homes.

This means several residents have been left without running water, but also without air conditioning to help deal with this heat.

Hurricane Fiona is now on route towards Atlantic Canada, but the Atlantic Ocean is only just ramping up for the 2022 season.

Tropical Depression Nine just skirted to the south of Puerto Rico, which could later curve northwards towards Florida, with a total of three tropical cyclones plus two disturbances now whirling away in the Atlantic basin.
