The first winter snow has now fallen for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. See it in pictures!

It was a cold and frosty start to the day this morning, with some waking up to a magical wintry landscape.

Snow showers have been persisting across Northern Scotland since Wednesday, with these slowly making their way southwards through the rest of the day.

Substantial amounts of snow has been reported at higher altitudes, with 15cm in Banffshire, in the Scottish Highlands. Even Edinburgh received a decent covering as snow showers intensified during the morning.

Snow showers also developed across parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland through the night, leaving just a dusting on the ground for now. Mountainous areas, such as Errigal in Country Donegal however, received slightly more of a covering.

Keep an eye on the forecast as the wintry showers later drift into Northern England, North Wales and perhaps parts of Central England too.

If you woke up to any snow please send us in your pictures via our dedicated uploader! We would love to see them. Stay warm!

A white arrow marks the typhoon’s predicted track towards the north-west, in the direction of Taiwan. To the west of the storm lie the Philippines, with the cities of Manila and Cebu; to the north of these lies Taiwan, with Taipei. Further west, the Chinese coast, including Hong Kong, and parts of Vietnam can be seen. The coloured wind map shows predominantly green areas outside the storm’s core, indicating significantly weaker winds. White streamlines illustrate the typhoon’s anti-clockwise circulation in the Northern Hemisphere. The highest wind speeds are concentrated around the eye of the cyclone.
