Unusual warmth
Iceland soars to 23°C at night

Iceland was warmer than most other parts of Europe, with Naxos at 15°C and Dublin at 1°C.

If you're looking for the warmest place in Europe at the moment, you might be surprised to find it in Iceland.

In the north of Iceland, very close to the Arctic Circle, temperatures soared to 23°C on Monday night, 11th November.

Even across the UK and Ireland that night, temperatures were largely between 5°C and 7°C, with maximum temperatures of around 11°C locally in Tralee.

The summer-like temperatures were caused by southerly winds, which brought warm air from the Azores to Iceland.

In addition, the mountainous terrain in the north of the island created a strong foehn effect, which warmed the air further.
