Hurricane Orlene has made landfall in Mexico as a category 1 hurricane and has caused flooding and landslides.

Orlene hit the western coast through the early hours of Tuesday, specifically affecting the Mexican state of Sinaloa.

Orlene arrived as a category 1 hurricane and, at the time of impact, generated winds of over 68 mph and heavy rainfall. As a result, numerous floods were reported across the region with some streets submerged in water.

Landslides and rock falls occurred in more elevated areas. Some trees and electricity poles were also knocked down, leaving 42,000 homes temporarily without power. Fortunately, however, no casualties have been reported so far in Mexico.

Over the weekend, Orlene reached category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale over the Pacific, making it a major hurricane.

As it made landfall, the strength of the hurricane decreased drastically and it became a Category 1. It has now evolved as a tropical depression, bringing mainly heavy rainfall.
