How to sleep better in warmer weather

With some pretty unbearable temperatures expected particularly on Monday night, likely surpassing our all-time highest minimum, here are some tips to help you rest in the heat.

Firstly it is important to keep hydrated. This will help you sleep as dehydration can cause bouts of insomnia. Make sure you also keep a glass of water next to the bed to reduce risk of dehydration.

Before heading to bed, open your windows. This will allow the hot air to flow out of your house. If you do continue to feel warm, however, think about using a fan or even sleeping downstairs where it will be slightly cooler.

In addition, wear and sleep in breathable fabrics. Cotton keeps you coolest, and you might want to consider ditching your duvet for a sheet.

Finally, use a hot water bottle... and not for its usual purpose! Fill it with water, pop in the freezer for a couple of hours and then stick under your bed sheets. Putting something cold on your pressure points: ankles, wrists, behind your knees, elbow pits, neck and temples, can also help instantly cool you down.
