Houseplant week begins
Home benefits of plant life

houseplants

Today marks the beginning of national ‘Houseplant Week’ in the UK, in the midst of winter we can still enjoy nature’s gifts indoors away from the bitter cold.

Not only do houseplants add a spark to the decor of our homes, they offer health benefits too. Studies have shown indoor plants help reduce stress levels and lead to an improved mood overall. Certain studies also show reduced fatigue and blood pressure.

So, which plants should you consider for the home? There are many options but since not everyone is green-fingered we’re looking at plants that are easy to care for.

For those in dark rooms you will want a hardy plant such as the Chinese evergreen. Not only does it not need much sunlight it can go weeks without watering if it slips your mind.

Another plant that does fine without much light or water is English ivy, but these will need more maintenance.

Cacti are perfect houseplants and need barely any care as long as they get plenty of sunlight. They are famously capable of living without water for extended periods. Aloe vera is similar in its need for sunlight but little water and offers various health benefits.
