With a warmer weekend on the cards, we all know the dangers that heat can cause.

But were you aware of exactly how quickly a car can heat up, and just how dangerously hot it can become? Take a look at our infographic below.

From the time you close the car door in 20°C heat - a realistic scenario in many parts of the UK and Ireland in the coming days - it's just 30 minutes before the car is 36°C hot.

Of course, the exact evolution of the temperature in your car depends on whether you park in the sun or the shade and many other factors.

As a rule of thumb, it's handy to know that in 20°C heat, it only takes an hour before the temperature is downright dangerous for children, animals and others who can't get out of the car on their own.
