Hay fever comeback
Dry, hot weather raises pollen levels

Satellite weather map of the UK and western Europe showing sunny conditions across much of Britain, a rain band approaching Ireland from the Atlantic, and a pollen icon indicating airborne pollen levels during warm weather.
Sunny days and summer warmth combine to raise pollen levels.

Feeling a little extra sniffly? While rain has suppressed pollen over the past few weeks, levels are soaring again thanks to the warmer conditions.

This is because in warmer, sunnier days, plants release more pollen. Sudden changes in weather such as a quick shift from cold to warm, or wet to dry, can also cause plants to release pollen more rapidly.

With unsettled weather last week, the comeback of higher pollen levels may make the impact feel harsher.
