A warmer day than Thursday, but rain is moving in from the Atlantic and strong gusts will be felt in places.

Kickstarting your morning

Welcome to the Breakfast Brief, offering a first look at the day's forecast and a sneak peek at today's news.

Weather outlook

Most regions see rain at times today, most notably across Ireland this morning where the band is first passing, heaviest to the south and north-west. Into the afternoon, the rainfall reaches Scotland and the south-west of England as it continues east.

Cloud cover precedes the rainfall across western areas, with thicker cloud coming in behind it too. Strong gusting winds will also mark the day, felt the hardest around the Irish Sea, with around gusts of 35 to 40 mph in Dublin and Aberystwyth.

Temperatures are more tolerable than yesterday. Ireland sees the best of the lasting warmth, approaching the mid-teens in the south and west. Meanwhile, much of the UK sees double-digits.
