Thunderstorms delivered record rainfall flooding streets, houses, and garages on Majorca Tuesday and Wednesday, fortunately there appears to be no injuries.

The Spanish Mediterranean island of Majorca experienced turbulent weather on Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday. Thunderstorms brought heavy rain, especially in the southwest of the island.

Emergency services had to pump out cellars and garages as some streams turned into torrents. People were rescued from a stranded vehicle, while a roof also collapsed. There were traffic obstructions, though no injuries have been reported.

North of the island's capital, Palma, more than 100 litres of rain per square metre fell within 24 hours until Wednesday morning.

At the measuring station of the University of the Balearic Islands it was 104 litres, and in the district of Secar de la Real higher still at 119 litres.

These are the largest amounts of rain ever measured at the two stations in a single day.

As of Thursday the situation has calmed down, although a band of rain did pass over the island around midday the volume did not compete with that seen in previous days.

An incident at Palma Airport on Tuesday saw two aircraft collide at low speeds, but this was not due to the weather conditions.
