Ex-Hurricane Kirk reaches Europe

Ex-Hurricane Kirk has started to impact the north-west of Spain, before continuing to barrel eastwards across Europe.

Our weather reporter Marco Kaschuba brings footage from the Ribeira region on the Atlantic coast, where gale-force winds are being measured and metre-high waves are building up.

The extratropical storm is currently moving across Spain and France through Wednesday 9th. By Wednesday night and into Thursday, it will reach Switzerland and Germany in a weakened form.

From hurricane to extratropical depression, Kirk formed in the mid-Atlantic at the end of September.

It lost much of its intensity in recent days and finally set course for Europe as an extratropical depression.
