Difference of 100 degrees
Extreme contrasts in global temperatures

TemperatureRadar: Over 40 degrees in the Australian outback

From 45 °C to -55 °C, the temperature contrasts are high at this time of year. The warmest place at present is the Gibson Desert in the state of Western Australia.

There, maximum temperatures of 45 °C and minimum temperatures of over 30 °C are expected throughout the week. Many other places in the Australian outback will also see temperatures above 40 °C, which is completely normal for this time of year.

It is also currently hot in parts of Africa, for example, with temperatures reaching 39 °C in Hopetown in South Africa. It is also hot in Argentina (39 °C in General Conesa), where a heatwave is currently prevailing. There have also been large wildfires there.

In contrast, temperatures are cooling down in Alaska and Siberia, among other places, where the Suhana weather station is reporting -54 °C. However, temperatures there will rise again in the coming days, "warming" to -40 °C during the day.

It is currently relatively mild, with maximum temperatures of -29 °C even in Oymyakon, the coldest inhabited place on earth. The record temperature there is -67.7 °C.
