A deadly tornado struck during overnight Sunday, causing devastation in Louin, Mississippi, with the full extent of damages now becoming clearer.

At least one person has died, with another 25 injuries reported from the suspected tornado that occurred around 11:40 pm local time Sunday night. Louin, is a small agricultural community about 70 miles southeast of state capital Jackson.

Many people were in bed when the tornado occurred.

Drone footage shows a chaotic scene with homes levels, trees snapped like toothpicks and at least one chicken farm levelled. This footage shows the devastation.

It has been a busy week across the South and Southeast of the US as an unusually active summer jet stream remains stationed above. This has set up an idea pattern for severe storms fed by Gulf of Mexico moisture to develop.
