It's time to officially welcome autumn! As of the autumn equinox which passed in the early morning hours.

While meteorological autumn got started on September 1st, it was only as of 01:06 am this morning and the passing of the equinox that astronomical autumn has started.

The equinox marks the point at which the sun is directly over the Earth's equator, providing an almost equal amount of daytime and nighttime.

From this point on, in the Northern Hemisphere, the daylight hours start to shrink until the winter solstice, thanks to the Earth’s North Pole tilting away from the sun.

Astronomical autumn lasts until the winter solstice, this year at 08:50 pm on December 21st, although meteorological winter begins December 1st.
