Changeable conditions
A more unsettled week after the heatwave

Satellite weather map for Tuesday 18.08 showing widespread rain and showers across the UK and Ireland, with temperatures of 17°C in Dublin and Glasgow and 22°C near London.
Low pressure brings scattered showers on Tuesday.

Temperatures dip back to more manageable levels for many of us this week with a return of slightly more unsettled and changeable conditions.

A low pressure system to the west of Scotland becomes influential on Tuesday with frontal rain moving through the south and south-east of England in the morning. This is followed by brighter spells and scattered showers as temperatures hover around average for the time of year amid breezy winds.

Wednesday sees the changeable conditions remain with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. Some of which could be heavy and potentially thundery across Scotland, Ireland, and north-western England. Still drier with light showers to the south and east of England where it is warmer again too.

From mid-week, the general outlook remains unsettled. Showers are a common sight on the WeatherRadar, still mixed with sunny spells as temperatures continue to rest around seasonal averages.

By Friday there are a few areas set for a cold shock. Morning temperatures briefly drop as low as 3°C around Brecon Beacons, and around 5°C in the Cotswolds.

Things do turn more settled into the weekend thanks to a ridge of high pressure which is building from the west. Despite this, it stays rather cool with no signs of another heatwave this month.
