Brisk easterly winds chill the Channel

Those on the south coast will feel more of a chill today as easterlies blow through.

High pressure keeps most of the UK and Ireland in a stable, settled easterly flow on Wednesday, but those winds are strong and cold along the south of England.

While temperatures are around average of the time of year, there will be more of a chill in the air along the Channel coast thanks to those easterly winds.

With gusts of around 35 mph expected through the day, the feels like temperature will be a few degrees below the forecast. In Plymouth for example, a forecasted 10°C around midday will feel more like 6°C thanks to the brisk easterlies.

Elsewhere, it's a rather calm day across Scotland with light winds, the rest of the UK and Ireland will see varying gusts, adding that chill, though most prominent along the south coast.

Temperatures remain fairly stable into the weekend, falling a little below average for some, before warming again to start next week.

The feels like temperature takes into account other factors, such as wind, to reflect how the day will actually feel on the ground. You can find these in the hourly forecast.
