Tips for the changeable month

gardening

You can ensure that your spring gardening work is not ruined by the changeable April weather.

Temperatures are looking to remain on the cooler side for the rest of the month, with below-average values for the time of year. While the coming days will be dominated by drier conditions, rain is still on the horizon.

Here's how to get your garden through the changeable April weather:

  • Protect fresh sowing or young seedlings from the wind and cold with a fleece cover
  • Do not prune sensitive plants too early or too severely so that a late frost cannot penetrate deeply into the shoot tips
  • A layer of mulch protects the soil in the bed from wind, cold and drying out
  • Secure potted plants on terraces and balconies against strong gusts of wind
  • Empty saucers that pots are sitting in immediately after heavy downpours and water when it is dry for longer periods
