Multiple weather warnings can be in place at any one time, but do you know where to find severe weather warnings in the Weather & Radar app?

Where to find the severe weather warning

When there is severe weather, which can be due to the presence of thunderstorms, high winds, heavy rain, snow or ice, a severe weather warning banner will appear under the weather right now feature on the home page of the app.

There are two types of alerts: nowcast warnings (short-range) and forecast warnings (triggered by forecast models up to three days ahead).

How to see the severe weather warning map

If you tap on the severe weather warning banner, the app will redirect you to our severe weather warnings map. Push notifications may also be activated.

This map, which you can also find by scrolling down the app page, will show you the locations of the weather warnings accompanied by a colour chart which indicates severity of conditions.

The colours show the intensity of the event as well as potential impacts, e.g. yellow could cause minor disruption and only very local damage, whilst red and purple would have widespread severe impacts.

Within the map you are also able to toggle between different weather conditions including thunderstorms, storms, heavy rain and snow/ice, as well as being able to see the weather warnings in place for the coming days.

Not all weather events need a weather warning however, and there are different thresholds required to reach them, with these thresholds unique to Weather & Radar.

You can also opt in to receive warnings in notifications.
