Across Kent & Sussex
Fresh water restrictions imposed

HosepipeRain has returned, but in some areas hosepipe bans remain.

Fresh water restrictions are to be introduced in Kent and Sussex as water supplies dwindle in the heat.

The move, announced earlier today, sees the two regions join Cornwall and Devon with active water restrictions in place, preventing the use of hosepipes or sprinklers.

In force from June 26th, the ban prevents those within the catchment area from watering gardens, clean cars, or fill swimming pools. A £1,000 fine could be imposed on those who ignore the ban.

This move follows similar restrictions last summer, where scorching temperatures placed extra pressure on water supplies and saw reservoirs emptied.

Some areas are already facing supply issues now. This includes households in Sussex and Kent having to rely on bottled water deliveries due to a lack of water.

Schools were also forced to close, South East Water say that the increased demand caused by hot weather is to blame.

A spell of dry conditions, followed by above-average temperatures, has resulted in the water company being unable to maintain sufficient levels of treated, clean water.

It is highly likely that similar water restrictions will be imposed elsewhere in the UK and Ireland across the summer.

Check with your water supplier for any restrictions which may impact you.
