A heatwave is heading for Central Europe – temperatures set to exceed 30 degrees for several days

10:00
12 June 2026

Above 30 degrees
Heat is heading for Central Europe

From this weekend onwards, hot air will be making its way from the Iberian Peninsula towards Central Europe. It will first reach France and then continue to move eastwards and northwards.

In the second half of the coming week, temperatures are set to rise to around 30 °C in the Benelux countries, Germany, the Czech Republic, and the Alpine region, among other places.

By the weekend, the summer air is even expected to reach the Baltic states and southern parts of Scandinavia. However, those areas won't experience hot days. Meteorologists define a hot day as a day when the maximum temperature reaches 30 °C or more.

The situation is quite different further south: in places such as Madrid and Rome, daily highs are set to remain between 30 and 35 °C for the time being. Temperatures of up to 35 °C are also expected in the Balkans next week.

Meanwhile, the UK and Ireland will also see temperatures on the rise next week but settling around the mid-20s for most, possibly hovering around 30 °C to the south-east of England.

Super Typhoon Bavi threatens Taiwan. Up to 1,000 mm of rain. . . Wednesday, 8 July 2026
The image shows an intense tropical cyclone over the western Pacific, east of Taiwan and the Philippines. The centre of the system is depicted as a light purple and white vortex with a clearly visible eye, surrounded by a ring of red and orange areas indicating the strongest wind speeds. A white arrow marks the typhoon’s predicted track towards the north-west, in the direction of Taiwan. To the west of the storm lie the Philippines, with the cities of Manila and Cebu; to the north of these lies Taiwan, with Taipei. Further west, the Chinese coast, including Hong Kong, and parts of Vietnam can be seen. The coloured wind map shows predominantly green areas outside the storm’s core, indicating significantly weaker winds. White streamlines illustrate the typhoon’s anti-clockwise circulation in the Northern Hemisphere. The highest wind speeds are concentrated around the eye of the cyclone.
