Snow was seen across the Cairngorms overnight and into Wednesday morning, as temperatures plummeted across the UK and Ireland.

A cold front sank southwards on Tuesday, opening the doors to bitterly unseasonable air as it turned cold enough to snow over the Scottish mountains. Snow was seen in the Cairngorms in the image shared above.

While air temperatures fell as low as 2°C, grass temperatures dropped below in some places, with a touch of frost even in the south.

However it wasn't cold enough to be breaking any records, with the minimum date record still held at -3.9°C set in the 1960s.

In fact, every night in June has fallen sub-zero at some point since records began, with most of those records broken between the 1950s and 1980s.

The only more recent date was a minimum of -2.4°C set in Altnaharra in the Scottish Highlands from the 22nd June 2021.
