300 houses damaged
Tornado hits town in France

A tornado struck a village in south-western France on Saturday. Despite extensive damage to property, fortunately no one was injured.

The tornado formed around midday and swept through the municipality of Mios, west of Bordeaux. Almost 300 houses were damaged, trees were uprooted and numerous objects were thrown through the air. Around 100 firefighters were deployed.

Those affected were taken to emergency shelters by the municipality.

Tornadoes are not uncommon at this time of year, but most occur during the summer months.
