Not just the UK
Heatwave grips continental Europe

Tuesday's highs caused disruption across western Europe.

Parts of the UK are sweating on Tuesday, but the highs are nothing compared to continental Europe.

In France, more than a thousand schools and even the Eiffel Tower are closed amid highs of up to 38°C, to the south, Spain sees highs into the low-40s for southern areas including Seville.

Meanwhile, Portugal recorded the country's hottest June temperature ever on Sunday, with a high of 46.6°C in Mora.

The more extreme highs will start to ease from midweek thanks to the arrival of cooler air, which is already passing over the UK and Ireland, quelling the worst of the warmth outside of south-east England.
