-15.2°C in Scotland
UK records coldest night of the year

TemperatureRadarThe TemperatureRadar highlights the freezing overnight temperatures felt in Scotland on Tuesday.

The UK saw the coldest night of the year so far as temperatures dropped to -15.2°C in Kinbrace, Scotland.

Much of the Scottish highlands saw temperatures dip far into the minuses after the current cold snap delivered snow to areas of the UK and Ireland.

The overnight reading of -15.2°C in Kinbrace bests the previous lowest temperature in 2023 of -10.4°C which was recorded in the Highlands village of Drumnadrochit on January 19th.

Conditions in the south-west were quite the contrast...

A temperature of 10°C in Penzance, Cornwall marks a swing of 25.2 degrees Celsius between the far north of Scotland and the south-west of England.

The arrival of a low pressure system delivered milder air to the south-west creating the stark difference in temperatures.

While it warmed the evening, the way this system interacts with the colder air descending from the north is responsible for the current snowfall.
