Unsettled and wet start to September

Atlantic weather systems will retain a strong influence on our weather into the first week of September, bringing further wet and windy spells for many.

Cool and showery weather is expected on Sunday and Monday as a deep low centred near Ireland moves little as we head into September.

Temperatures are often likely to be around or just below average values for the time of year, but it will often feel a little colder due to the gusty winds, especially near coasts.

The Atlantic weather machine remains active throughout pretty much the whole week, as further systems look set to move across the UK and Ireland.

These could bring further spells of heavy rain or even a few thunderstorms, though exact details are not clear yet.

This wet, windy and rather cool pattern looks set to continue into next weekend, though there is a chance for some sunnier, more settled interludes then as well.

Little change is expected temperature-wise, with an early taste of autumn, as daytime highs will often be around or sometimes below 20°C.
