Typhoon Kalmaegi swept across the Philippines, leaving behind extensive damage. At least 90 people lost their lives. The province of Cebu, south of the capital Manila, was particularly hard hit.

Heavy rainfall triggered mudslides that swept away cars, lorries, and shipping containers. A military helicopter crashed during a rescue operation – not all the occupants survived the accident.

The tropical storm will hit the east coast of Vietnam on Thursday. Although it will weaken rapidly, heavy rainfall is still expected.

For the Philippines, however, things are not calming down. A new tropical storm is currently developing in the western Pacific.

It is expected to hit the northern parts of the country on Sunday. However, an accurate forecast is still uncertain.
