Gusts exceeding 90 mph
Tropical storm heads for Australia

Australia is preparing for tropical storm Fina. The cyclone is set to hit the north of the country and the city of Darwin over the weekend.

The Category 2 cyclone brings wind speeds of up to 95 miles per hour (150 km/h) and heavy rainfall. As a result, flooding, storm surges and power outages are to be expected.

WeatherRadar: Fina brings lots of rain and heavy thunderstorms.

The risk of flooding is already significantly increased for several rivers. Some roads are impassable. Further restrictions are likely over the weekend.

If the cyclone makes landfall on Friday, it would equal Australia's earliest cyclone to do so on record, matching Cyclone Ines in 1973.
