Time-lapse: How a soap bubble freezes

This fascinating time-lapse video shows how a soap bubble freezes in the first sunlight of the day.

At first, fine ice crystals form and dance smoothly across the soap bubble's surface. They slowly grow, collide, get trapped and eventually come to a halt.

From then on, their final solidification is sealed: the crystals spread all over the soap bubble, refracting the morning sunlight into filigree patterns of ice.

You can easily do the trick: the morning air just needs to be cold enough. A few degrees below freezing is enough, and these days there's a night frost over almost the whole country.
