Crashing waves as strong winds return

Strong winds return today, as Storm Herminia brings renewed strength to the gusts but won't match Éowyn.

Herminia, named by the Spanish Met Office, brings only glancing impacts to the UK and Ireland. As seen above, waves are crashing against the shore in Newhaven, East Sussex.

Some flights have been cancelled, with 26 from British Airways, with gusts reaching up to 65 mph in south-west England.

The system comes days after Storm Éowyn. At least two people passed away due to the conditions felt on Friday, January 24.

In Ireland and Northern Ireland, more than 343,000 properties remain without power, with engineers from England and France aiding efforts to reconnect the outages.
