The annual Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak tonight, with good conditions for visibility across the UK and Ireland.

This year, the moon is making it more difficult to observe the meteors. It was full moon just a few days ago, and it is still bright in the night sky, outshining some shooting stars.

However, the Perseids will continue to streak across the night sky until around August 24th and there are widespread clear skies providing the best conditions to spot them.

As the moon continues to wane over the next few days, observation conditions will improve too.
