Minus 53 degrees
Record cold in Canada's Yukon Territory

The TemperatureRadar shows extremely low temperatures in north-western Canada.

Last week, North America experienced exceptionally cold weather with new temperature records.

On Wednesday morning, the lowest temperature of minus 53 degrees was recorded in Braeburn, not far from Whitehorse, in the Canadian province of Yukon. It was the coldest it has been at this time of year in almost 50 years.

There were also many new cold records in the USA. The icy air pushed far south, especially towards the US east coast. In Saranac Lake in the state of New York, for example, temperatures of minus 30 degrees were recorded.

It is still bitterly cold in the eastern half of the United States. Even on the Gulf of Mexico, there is nighttime frost.
