Heat boost for UK
Ex-hurricane influences conditions

The wind field of the former Hurricane Erin has a diameter of around 3,000 kilometres.

Former Hurricane Erin is currently swirling over the Atlantic between to the west of Ireland as it approaches.

The tropical cyclone has transformed into an extratropical low-pressure system over the past few days and is now heading towards Europe.

In many countries, Erin will initially bring summer weather by drawing very warm to hot air from southern regions at its front, as seen with the highs in south-east England Tuesday.

As the low pressure system approaches, the weather will change. Showers and thunderstorms will become more frequent in the second half of the week, with winds picking up, especially in Western Europe. Temperatures will drop noticeably again.

A band of heavy rain will sweep over the UK and, first, Ireland from early Wednesday.
