Fresh snow in the Alps

WeatherRadar: Snowfall over altitudes above 2,000 metres.

Looking for a taste of winter in summer? Head to the Alps, where at higher elevations there will be a return to wintry conditions.

On the northern edge of the Alps, 10 to over 30 centimetres of fresh snow will fall in the high mountains by Wednesday morning at altitudes above around 2,000 to 2,500 metres.

However, the summer snow will not last long, as temperatures will rise significantly over the next few days, initially in the western regions and then gradually in the eastern Alps. The frost line will rise to between 2,500 and over 3,000 metres.

Did you know?

Snow in the high mountains of the Alps is not uncommon, even in summer. However, after a heatwave, the drop in temperature feels particularly severe.
