Despite little rainfall expected in the coming weeks, Wales is set to avoid summer drought.

After the driest spring and summer for more than 150 years in 2022, reservoirs and rivers have sufficiently recovered across Wales.

Thanks to this, the country should avoid seeing water restrictions which are already being imposed in England.

Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire saw hosepipe bans in 2022 amid a very dry period led to heightened demand on water resources.

Heavy rain between January and April has boosted supplies, priming Welsh water suppliers with summer now just weeks away.

While levels are high, Welsh Water has asked that the public remain thoughtful regarding the water they use to avoid exacerbating demand.

Meanwhile, in England water restrictions are already in place for Cornwall and parts of Devon prohibiting the use of water for washing cars or watering gardens.

Anyone found to be in breach of the restrictions face fines up to £1,000.

In February, the National Drought Group state that England remains at risk of severe drought if we see just one dry spell.
